The goal of our research is to develop novel approaches for treating corneal opacity, a leading cause of blindness worldwide. We are particularly focused on the development of an intraocular microdisplay projection system that can restore vision by completely bypassing an opaque cornea, and a flexible acrylic keratoprosthesis that can potentially improve clinical outcomes of current treatment methods. To accomplish these objectives, we use a multi-disciplinary approach spanning the fields of engineering, corneal surgery, and visual electrophysiology testing. We hope to drive technological innovation in ophthalmology to one day offer blind patients a second chance at sight.
